Chad Mendes Talks Frankie Edgar: “This is a Fight a Lot of People Wanted to See”

Chad Mendes has been booked for yet another, high stakes fighter, and the perennial featherweight contender is understandably very excited about it.

Recently the UFC announced that Mendes will battle fellow contender Frankie Edgar on December 11th, which is the night before champion Jose Aldo takes on interim champ, Conor McGregor.

In Edgar, Mendes will take on the featherweight division’s #2 ranked fighter and the promotion’s former lightweight champ. The winner is expected to secure a title fight with whomever leaves UFC 194 with the belt. Mendes is currently sitting in the #3 position at 145.

Mendes recently appeared on “UFC Tonight“, and while doing so, “Money” had this to say about fighting Edgar (quotes via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“This is a fight a lot of people wanted to see for a long time. I’ve been watching Frankie for a long time. He’s always a guy because of his size, when I worked my way up the rankings and he dropped down to 145, I figured face each other. The time is now and I’m excited. He’s a scrapper. We have similar styles. He has great cardio, pushes the pace and mixes his boxing with wrestling. The winner will be right in line for the title. It’s a huge fight for me.”

“I’m more dangerous than he is if I’ve had a full camp,” said Mendes, while referring to the fact he faced McGregor in July on short notice, and was stopped by the latter. “I’m a very dangerous fighter. I can put anyone to sleep at any time. I’ve got to fight a smart fight.”

Edgar-Mendes will headline the TUF 22 Finale, which will be hosted by a venue yet to be determined in Las Vegas.
