Although it remains to be seen if Chael Sonnen will be further disciplined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the outspoken fighter continues to say his fighting days are over.

On Tuesday, the NSAC elected to temporarily suspend Sonnen, after the veteran fighter failed a random drug test heading into UFC 175. Sonnen had already announced he was retiring from fighting, and on Wednesday, the 37 year-old repeated his intention on “UFC Tonight” (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I’m retired. But there is a protocol that they have to go through, and they will have a hearing that I’ll show up for. I won’t defend myself, but I will have a conversation on the topic and on the record and we’ll do that in about a month.”

And when asked if there’s any chance fans might see Sonnen return to the Octagon, the former middleweight contender noted:

“I don’t think so. I hope not. I’m most definitely retired. As fighters, we tend to stay in the sport a little too long. It’s fun, it’s seductive and it’s all we know, but I’m done.”

Sonnen reportedly tested positive for the banned substances anastrozole and clomiphene, which the rugged wrestler says he was using to help transition off TRT.

The FOX Sports commentator will close out his career having gone 28-14-1.
