After winning seven straight fights, Charles Oliveira is likely set for a raise. But recently the lightweight contender revealed contract talks with the UFC are on hold, as a result of the coronavirus pademic.

Oliveira (29-8) is coming off third round, submission win over Kevin Lee last month, and the Brazilian has moved into the #8 ranking of the UFC’s lightweight division. While talking to MMA Fighting recently, “do Bronx” had this to say about his contract negotiations with the promotion.

“I’m not even worried about it,” said Oliveira, while referring to his managers and coaches Diego Lima and Jorge Patino. “‘Macaco,’ Lima and I sat down after the event and talked a lot. We know the wonderful moment I’m living right now; God has blessed me a lot, and I said I’d leave it up to my manager and wouldn’t worry about it.”

“We’re going through very difficult times with the coronavirus, so it’s in (my managers’) hands. “‘Macaco’ called me 15 of 20 days after the event and said he spoke with (UFC matchmaker) Sean (Shelby), and Sean said they would wait for this whole coronavirus thing to be over to sit and talk. We know the contract with the UFC is over, but it will definitely be renewed.”

The 30-year-old Oliveira, who has scored finishes in seven straight bouts, hasn’t lost since 2017. The last fighter to beat Oliveira was Paul Felder, who stopped him in the second round.
