Charlie Brenneman vs. Erick Silva Added To UFC on FX3

Charlie Brenneman

By Tom Taylor

With the addition of a welterweight showdown between Charlie Brennemen and Erick Silva, the lineup for UFC on FX 3 continues to grow.

Brennemen is 1-1 in his last 2 outings, first falling to Anthony Johnson then rebounding with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Roberts. Before these fights, Brennemen secured the most impressive victory of his career by upsetting Rick Story at UFC on versus 4.

His opponent, Silva, will enter the fight with a controversial disqualification loss in his wake. Despite the beating he laid on Carlo Prater at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, the fight was ruled as a loss for Silva due to an illegal blow to the back of Prater’s head.

No opportunity to appeal the verdict was allowed for Silva, based on the fact that he had been warned by the referee to be cautious of illegal strikes. Given the controversy surrounding the disqualification, Silva was still awarded a win bonus, and will now be gifted with a substantial step up in competition against Brennemen.

A featherweight scrap between Ross Pearson and Cub Swanson has also been confirmed for the event. Pearson, an ultimate fighter winner, recently made the drop from lightweight to featherweight, earning a unanimous decision win over Junior Assuncao in his first effort at 145-pounds.

Pearson`s opponent, Swanson, will enter the fight having most recently clobbered George Roop in the second round of their fight at UFC on Fox 2.

No location has been announced for the UFC on FX 3 main card, although the event is scheduled to occur on June 8.The event’s main card will be broadcast on FX, while the undercard will air on Fuel and Facebook.
