Chris Weidman’s next title defense won’t take place on May 24th after all, as the UFC has announced that the middleweight champion has incurred a knee injury, and as a result, he won’t fight Lyoto Machida until July 5th. The title fight was originally scheduled to take place at UFC 173 in Las Vegas, but due to the injury, the bout will now headline UFC 175.

According to the UFC, a new main event for UFC 173 will be announced in the coming days. UFC 175 is also scheduled to take place in Las Vegas.

Weidman hasn’t fought since UFC 168 in December, when he scored a TKO win over Anderson Silva, who broke his leg in round two.

Machida was brought in as a replacement for Vitor Belfort, who was unable to commit to the May 24th bout, after the Nevada Commission banned TRT use.
