Cody McKenzie Says Bout with Fellow TUF Vet Michael Jonson Next

Cody McKenzie will look to reverse a two fight losing skid against fellow TUF 12 veteran Michael Johnson, according to a post the lightweight has made recently on his official Twitter account. McKenzie says that he’ll face his “friend” Johnson on January 28th, in Chicago, at the promotion’s upcoming UFC on FOX 2 event.

After going undefeated in his first twelve professional bouts, McKenzie (12-2) has now dropped back-to-back fights against Yves Edwards and most recently in September, Vagner Rocha.

The charismatic fighter secured a victory in his first official UFC bout last December, by tapping out Aaron Wilkinson with a first round, guillotine choke. The victory marked the tenth time in McKenzie’s career that he’s used the technique to secure a victory.

Johnson (9-6) is coming off a first round, heel hook loss to Paul Sass in October, after stopping Edward Faaloloto at a UFC Live show in June.

In 2010, Johnson battled his way to the finals of the twelfth season of TUF, before losing by unanimous decision to Jonathan Brookins last December.

The January 28th card will be hosted by Chicago’s United Center. Although not confirmed, a light-heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis is rumored to be the card’s main event.
