Competitors For 2018 IMMAF European Open Championships

By Press Release

[London. 7 June 2018] The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) has released its provisional list of amateur MMA athletes competing in the 2018 IMMAF Senior European Championships and the 2018 IMMAF Youth European Open Championships, from 18 to 22 June in Bucharest.

Hosted by the Romanian Kempo MMA Federation, the two nation vs nation tournaments will run concurrently at the Grand Rin Hotel.

Athletes participation will be finalised during Check-In on 17 June, with the Tournament Draw taking place that evening. Competition matches, which are open for FREE to the public, take place from Monday 18 to Friday 22 from 11am.

Following the announcement of an amalgamation with the World Mixed Martial Arts Association, the event for the first time sees WMMAA athletes competing on the IMMAF platform.

2018 IMMAF SENIOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (18+ – SENIOR EVENT)

The IMMAF Senior European Championships is open to all competitors of age 18 and above, who have been selected by their National Federation and who pass IMMAF eligibility criteria.

Having first given priority entry to teams from the continent, rendering some divisions purely European, the remaining brackets have since been opened up to welcome international competitors from outside of Europe.

2018 IMMAF YOUTH EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (18 – 20s / U21s – JUNIOR EVENT)

The smaller IMMAF Youth European Open Championships is the IMMAF’s first ever junior competition for 18,19 & 20 year olds only. The tournament is an ‘Open’ event, welcoming international competitors from outside of Europe.

All IMMAF junior competitions will take place under the standard IMMAF Amateur MMA Rules. Their purpose is to provide better opportunity for younger rising stars to shine against competitors of a similarly limited range of experience. In line with IMMAF’s ethos, they create a safer competition environment for younger adults who have not yet reached their physical peak. Additionally, the Junior competitions create increased opportunities for national teams to win medals.

National Federations are permitted to submit up to two competitors per weight category into each tournament, totalling a maximum of four per weight category across the two events. Weight categories span Strawweight to Featherweight for women, and Flyweight to Super Heavyweight for men. The largest national teams could theoretically present up to fifty-six athletes across two competitions.
