Conor McGregor Comments on UFC 303 Withdrawal
By FCF Staff
Conor McGregor has released his first statement, since it was announced he will no longer fight at UFC 303.
The former featherweight and lightweight champ was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at the June 29th event. But, after a pre-fight presser that McGregor was supposed to attend in Dublin was cancelled, eventually, it was announced he’s been sidelined with an injury.
More recently, the 35-year-old shared out the statement below via social media.
“Very tough to be ruled out of my scheduled return bout. I picked up an injury prior to the press conference that required more time to heal than was available to me. The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly, but one made in consultation with my doctors, the UFC, and my team. My fans and opponent deserve me at my best for this fight and we will get there! Thank you for the messages of support, I am in good spirits and confident I’ll be back!”
McGregor (22-6) hasn’t fought now since July, 2021, when he broke his leg in his rubber match with Dustin Poirier. The polarizing star is 2-3 in his last 5 contests.
