Although Conor McGregor’s quest to reclaim the UFC’s lightweight title suffered a major setback on Saturday night, the star says he’ll be back.

McGregor faced Dustin Poirier in the headliner of UFC 257, and the latter avenged his 2014 loss to the former champ, by stopping him in round two. Leading up to the event, the consensus was that the winner of the bout would advance to a title fight, possibly with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

After the defeat, which was McGregor’s second in his last three fights, the Irish fighter reported this (quote via MMA Junkie).

“I’ll certainly regroup. I’ll regroup and pick myself up, get up off off the floor and go again,” McGregor said. “Styles make fights. There’s many great stylistic matchups out there. Myself and Dustin are 1-and-1. Myself and Nate (Diaz) are 1-and-1. There’s many good matchups for me. … It wasn’t my night. It wasn’t a great night, but no excuses. Hats off. I’ll regroup and pick myselk up.”

McGregor also tweeted out this.

With the defeat, the 32-year-old McGregor now has a record of 22-5. Poirier improved his record to 27-6.
