Conor McGregor ended Jose Aldo’s remarkable reign as featherweight champion back in 2015, but the former champ says he was extremely happy to see the legend win at UFC on FOX 30.

Aldo stopped fellow contender Jeremy Stephens on Saturday night, and in doing so, ended a two fight losing skid he incurred at the hands of Max Holloway. Recently TMZ Sports spoke with McGregor in New York City, and the star had this to say, about his former’s foe’s victory (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I was so happy for him,” McGregor said. “Honestly, truly happy to see the joy he had after it. It’s a crazy business, and I know he’s gone through a lot of stuff. So to see him come back with that great finish, I was very happy for him and his coach, Andre Pederneiras. The whole of Ireland was happy for Jose Aldo that night.”

McGregor also reported that his next bout, an expected fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, is close to being finalized.
