Max Holloway has done nothing but win, since he was defeated by Conor McGregor, and the latter’s coach believes he’s the sport’s second best, featherweight…

Holloway took on McGregor back in 2013, and lost the bout via unanimous decision. Since then, the Hawaiian fighter has won nine in a row, and has worked his way into the #3 spot at 145. Last weekend, Holloway decisioned fellow contender, Ricardo Lamas.

McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, recently spoke with the Underground, and while doing so, he said this about Holloway (quote via FOX Sports.com):

“I thought Holloway looked fantastic the other night [at UFC 199]. I’ve said it ever since Conor fought Max, I had him as the second best 145er in the division,” Kavanagh said. “I think he’s the best of them all. That’s just my own personal opinion. And he looked very, very good against Lamas — I was actually surprised he didn’t stop him, but Lamas is a tough guy, so, it went the distance. Holloway really stood out in that fight for me.”

Former champ Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar will battle for the interim featherweight title at UFC 200 on July 9th. McGregor, meanwhile, will rematch Nate Diaz in a welterweight contest on August 20th.

Kavanagh was asked whether he believes McGregor will return to 145 to defend his title, and the coach said he doesn’t “know”.
