A few weeks ago, Conor McGregor said he was interested in fighting the winner of the ‘BMF’ title fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. As McGregor prepares for a January 18th bout with Donald Cerrone, his striking coach says a showdown with Masvidal is still part of the plan.

McGregor’s longtime coach, Owen Roddy, recently appeared on the Eurobash podcast. When asked about the possibility of McGregor fighting Masdvidal next year, Roddy said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“That’s the plan,” said Roddy, while also acknowledging McGregor’s intention to rematch Khabib Nurmagomedov next year.

“That’s what he wants to do and there’s one thing I always say: when Conor says he wants to do something, if anyone is going to do it, he can. But, let’s not look past Cerrone. He’s a tricky opponent and he’s a veteran with tricks up his sleeve. But Conor going in there the way he looks now, he should do well.”

Masvidal defeated Diaz in the headliner of UFC 244 last month via TKO (due to doctor stoppage). The lightweight champion Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, is booked to fight Tony Ferguson on April 18th.
