One day removed from his submission loss to Chris Lytle at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s latest Live on Versus event, Dan Hardy is repeating that he plans on taking a short break from fighting. Despite word from UFC CEO Lorenzo Feritta that Hardy will not be cut from the promotion, following his fourth consecutive loss last night in Milwaukee, the British welterweight tweeted today:

“Thanks for the support guys, I gave it what I had but the better man won. Gonna take a little time off and get some learning done.”

At the event’s post fight press conference last night, Hardy credited the now retired vet Lytle for his abilities, before stating that he plans on taking a break from competition.

“It was a tough fight, it was exactly what I expected, obviously apart from the squeeze on the neck at the end. I did tap, normally I say I would never tap, but I’ve got no shame in admitting defeat to Chris,” said Hardy about the fight ending submission, which came in the bout’s final minute. “I shot in and thought I would score a couple of points, learned that from my last fight, and I thought maybe it would even out the round a little bit. I just went straight into his guillotine. I knew it was a strong technique of his and he got me with it.”

“I think my heads elsewhere to be honest and I’m going to step back, enjoy being in the gym for a while, and see where the future takes me.”

Hardy (23-10) entered the UFC in 2008 and went on to score victories over Akihiro Gono, Rory Markham, Marcus Davis and Mike Swick. The four straight wins earned Hardy a title fight with champion Georges St. Pierre, but after losing by unanimous decision to the decorated fighter in March, 2010, Hardy has lost three more consecutive bouts.
