Dan Hooker Campaigning For Conor McGregor Fight
By FCF Staff
Now that Michael Chandler is booked to fight Charles Oliveira at UFC 309, Dan Hooker is raising his hand for a scrap with Conor McGregor.
After months of delays, McGregor and Chandler were booked to fight at UFC 303 in June. But, a broken pinky toe for McGregor shelved the bout. More recently, it was announced that Chandler and Oliveira will square off on November 16th.
Hooker was a recent guest on Submission Radio, and while discussing his next move, he proposed a showdown with the polarizing star (quotes via MMA Junkie.com).\
““He’s without a fight,” Hooker said. “I know Conor’s hungry to fight, and fight someone that he can get something from and makes a lot of sense. That’s why I feel like Chandler kind of sitting there and waiting, and not staying active, you kind of lose. What does he get out of beating Chandler? He knocks out Michael Chandler in the first round, Conor McGregor doesn’t even get in that top five off of that performance.”
Before Chandler was booked to fight Oliveira, McGregor called for that fight to be rescheduled for late 2024. But, the former champ was in attendance at the Anthony Joshua – Daniel Dubois fight this weekend in London, and McGregor (22-6) reported he hopes to still fight Chandler in early 2025.
Hooker (24-12), meanwhile, has won three straight and is coming off a split decision win over Mateuz Gamrot. The New Zealand fighter sits in the #5 spot of the UFC’s lightweight rankings.
