Glover Teixeira is calling for a title shot, following his thrilling win over Thiago Santos, and Dana White agrees the contender has made his case.

Teixeira faced the light heavyweight contender in the headliner of UFC Vegas 13, and although he took some heavy shots, the rugged vet’s grappling delivered him a submission win. For some time, the bout was considered a title shot eliminator.

But, more recently, UFC President Dana White confirmed that the the promotion’s planning on having middleweight champ Israel Adesanya challenge light heavyweight champ, Jan Blachowicz next. While talking to Laura Sanko after Teixeira’s big win, White had this to say about Teixeira’s title shot call out (quote via MMA Junkie).

“I was sitting listening to him give his interview – he’s not wrong,” White said. “It’s like, ‘I deserve the shot, I’ve been here forever.’ He’s on a streak, he looked great tonight. What’s funny is, every time I count this guy and think that I don’t know if you got it in you, he proves me wrong. He looked incredible tonight.”

“That’s something we need to figure out,” White said, while discussing plans for the light heavyweight title. “But I heard him and I agree with him and I’m taking him serious. So, yeah. I’m not going to doubt this guy any more.”

The 41-year-old Teixeira (32-7), who has won five straight fights, fought for the belt in 2014 but was defeated by Jon Jones.
