Dana White Believes Junior dos Santos Needs to Consider Fighting Future

Junior dos Santos was stopped for the fourth, consecutive time at UFC 256 this past weekend, and Dana White believes it’s time for the former champ to consider retiring.

The 36-year-old facing rising heavyweight Ciryl Gane at the event, and dos Santos was finished in the second round via a standing elbow. Although there was some debate as to whether the strike may have been to the back of the head, and therefore a foul, it was another setback for the Brazilian.

While speaking to the media after the event, White was asked if he thinks ‘Cigano’ should consider his future in fighting, and the UFC President said “I do”.

The latest loss for dos Santos comes at a time when White has said as many as 60 fighters could be released in the coming weeks. Recently longtime, middleweight contender, Yoel Romero was released.

When asked about the pending cuts, following UFC 256, White said this (quote via MMA Junkie).

“That’s every weekend. We’ll be talking about this next weekend, too, after the fights. It’s part of the sport. Between last year and next year, you’re going to see a lot of the old big names moving on and retiring.”

The loss on Saturday dropped the record of dos Santos to 21-9.
