Recently there’s been extensive speculation regarding whether a third bout between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will be for the UFC’s lightweight title. But, as it stands right now, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case.

Poirier avenged a 2014 loss to McGregor last month at UFC 257, by stopping the star in round two. More recently, UFC President Dana White spoke with ESPN, and he confirmed a rubber match is being discussed (quotes via Give Me Sport.com).

“He’s [Conor Mcgregor] completely obsessed with the rematch now and wants the fight back.

“What’s fun for us, being the fans, if you look at the number-one ranked guy in the world, Dustin Poirier all the way down to number seven, who I think is Rafael dos Anjos, the fights that can be made to find out who becomes the next champion are unbelievable.”

But, when White was asked specifically if the third fight would be for a title, he said this.

“No. These guys are all going to fight it out, we’ll narrow it down to the two guys who will face off for the title.”

White also repeated that he’s still hoping to convince champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to come out of retirement for another fight.
