It looks like Jose Aldo will get a chance to fight for the bantamweight title after all. Dana White is reporting the UFC’s looking at having the legend fight for the now-vacated belt.

Aldo was scheduled to fight the now-former champ, Henry Cejudo on May 9th. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dominick Cruz ended up facing Cejudo instead. After the latter won the bout, Cejudo announced he is retiring from professional fighting.

As a result, there’s been speculation about who will fight for the vacated title. But, while talking to ESPN recently, White announced this (quote via MMA Junkie).

“I’ll break this right here and right now – and my people are probably going to kill me for this one,” White said. “(Henry) Cejudo has retired, so we’re talking right now about Petr Yan vs. Jose Aldo for the vacant title. We don’t have a date or a place set for that, but that’s the fight we’re looking at right now.”

Yan (14-1) is coming off a stoppage win over Urijah Faber in December, while Aldo (28-6) dropped a tightly contested, split decision loss to Marlon Moraes that same month.
