An expected, pivotal featherweight fight between Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez has been canceled, as the latter has been sidelined with an injury.

Rodriguez was expected to face his fellow contender at the UFC’s August 29th card in Las Vegas. But, on Tuesday it was reported by Milenio that Rodriguez was withdrawing from the fight.

After the Dana White Contender Series, White told reporters the following (quote via MMA Junkie).

“He had a high ankle sprain and a fracture,” White said. “He’s out.”

The 27-year-old Rodriguez (13-2, 1 no-contest) is coming off a decision win over Jeremy Stephens in October and he’s gone 3-1, with 1 no-contest in his last 5 bouts.

Magomedsharipov (18-1), meanwhile, defeated Calvin Kattar by decision in November and he’s won 14 straight.
