Tyron Woodley has yet to fight in over a year, and a scheduled bout with Leon Edward for last month was postponed. But, recently UFC President Dana White said the promotion’s planning to have the former welterweight champ fight in May.

Woodley, who lost the welterweight title to Kamaru Usman in March, 2019, was booked to fight Edward at UFC London last month. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the card was postponed. Since then, Woodley has been driving for a fight with Colby Covington.

Recently White spoke with ESPN, and while talking about Woodley, he said this (quote via MMA Junkie).

“We’re working on a fight with (Woodley) right now,” White said. “After these three dates, we’re coming right back. We’re going to do four fights in 14 days. After May 9, the UFC schedule is back on. We’re back on and running. We’re looking at a fight for Woodley. Woodley will probably be the fourth fight. He’ll be the main event.”

Since that interview took place, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported that Woodley informed him he’s leaning towards accepting a May 23rd bout with Gilbert Burns.
