After Stipe Miocic avenged his 2018 loss to Daniel Cormier last month, and reclaimed the heavyweight crown, there’s been extensive speculation about whether a rubber match could materialize. Well, recently UFC President Dana White reported that the promotion is indeed, working on just that.

Miocic and Cormier battled in the main event of UFC 241, August 17th, and Miocic finished the fight with strikes in round four. The two battled for the first time at UFC 236 last July, and Cormier ended Miocic’s reign as champion via first round, knockout.

White recently spoke with Barstool Sports, and while doing so, he said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“Stipe is recovering from that fight. He’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight. We’re waiting for him to heal and then yeah, we’re going to do the trilogy,” White said.

Following UFC 241, the 40-year-old Cormier said he was going to take some time to consider his future. The decorated fighter said for sometime that he was not going to fight past the age of 40. But, earlier this year Cormier decided he was going to extend his retirement date.
