Not everyone is on board with the UFC’s decision to hand Brock Lesnar a title shot, and following UFC 226, Dana White responded to those critics.

For some time there’s been speculation that Lesnar would fight for the heavyweight title in his UFC return, and after Daniel Cormier took the belt at UFC 226, it was confirmed the pro-wrestling star will fight “DC” next. Since Lesnar officially has no victories since 2010, and because he’s coming off a suspension from USADA, the bout has been criticized by many.

At the card’s post fight presser, however, White had this to say about the fight’s criticisms (quote via MMA Fighting):

“People are gonna criticize us no matter what we do,” White said. “Brock came in, he popped for that thing but he beat Mark Hunt who was one of the top guys. He’s a former world champion, it’s a fight that people want to see, and it’s definitely a fight that Cormier wants. Cormier wants that fight.

“They’ve known each other a long time – the whole wrestling thing – and they talk a lot of s**t to each other about wrestling and who would have won in wrestling and who would have done this and that. There is a thing with those two on who would win and now they’re gonna find out.”

The light-heavyweight champ Cormier knocked Stipe Miocic out in the opening round on Saturday to secure the heavyweight title.
