Robbie Lawler doesn’t have his next title defense booked just yet, but following UFC 196, Dana White’s relayed that a fight with Nate Diaz could be next.

Diaz submitted featherweight champion Conor McGregor at Saturday’s event, in a fight that was contested at 170 pounds. After the memorable card, White appeared on SportsCenter, and the UFC President stated this (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“You know what would make a lot of sense? This isn’t the fight I’m making; I’m just saying him and Robbie would make a lot of sense,” White said. “His brother beat Robbie. Robbie is now the world champion, and Nate became very, very popular tonight. We’ll see what happens with Nate.”

The welterweight champ Lawler is coming off a tightly contested, decision win over Carlos Condit in January. Since the fight, there’s been a lot of talk about a rematch between the two. Tyron Woodley is also in the mix for a title shot, since he was told he’d receive one, after Johny Hendricks had to withdraw from their scheduled bout last October.

Lawler faced Nick Diaz back in 2004, and was KO’d by the latter in round two.
