Dana White Says Conor McGregor Fighting Tony Ferguson is “The Move” to Make
By FCF Staff
As 2017 winds down it’s still not clear when and who Conor McGregor will fight next, but Dana White has repeated that a bout with Tony Ferguson, is what the UFC hopes to book.
Since McGregor was stopped by boxing star Floyd Mayweather in August, the UFC’s lightweight champ has said he intends to defend the title, but no fight has been finalized. White appeared on FOX Sport’s “Undisputed” show this week, and while discussing McGregor, the UFC President said this (quote via MMA Fighting):
“What we have to do is – he needs to defend that title”
“Tony Ferguson is the fight right now and is the move if (McGregor) wants to come back.”
In another interview with SportsCenter, White said that he hope to have McGregor back for a fight by “summer”.
McGregor hasn’t fought in the Octagon since November, 2016, when he took out Eddie Alvarez to win the 155 title. The interim champ Ferguson, meanwhile, recently underwent elbow surgery.
