It remains to be seen if and when Conor McGregor actually competes in the Octagon again. But, according to UFC CEO Dana White, the controversial star now isn’t expected to fight until later in 2025.

McGregor, who has not fought since 2021, was booked to fight Michael Chandler this past summer at UFC 303. But, a broken toe forced the former featherweight and lightweight champ out of the fight.

Since then, McGregor has repeatedly called to be rebooked for a bout and he has said he hopes to fight soon. But, during a recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show, White reported the Irish fighter’s return is a ways off yet, while discussing the possibility of McGregor fighting Chandler (quote MMA Fighting.com).

“That’s a fun fight,” White said. “I think Conor and Chandler both like that fight. When Conor comes back, which I see being sometime the later part of next year, we’ll see where everybody’s at and what’s going on and we’ll figure out who faces Conor.”

Chandler is booked to fight former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira this weekend at UFC 309.

The 36-year-old McGregor has also been in the news lately on account of a civil case that’s been brought against him in Ireland, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman. McGregor has denied the claim.
