Dana White Says Conor McGregor’s Opponent to be Determined, Following Michael Chandler – Charles Oliveira Booking
By FCF Staff
Following the news that Michael Chandler is going to fight Charles Oliveira next, and not Conor McGregor, Dana White is claiming nothing has been determined for the star’s comeback fight.
After months of delays, McGregor and Chandler were booked to fight at UFC 303 in June. But, McGregor broke his pinky toe and the fight was called off.
Immediately following the cancellation, there was speculation the fight would be rebooked for later in 2024, and both McGregor and Chandler campaigned for that to happen. But, ultimately, Chandler was booked to fight Oliveira at UFC 309, November 16th.
At a recent Q&A in Dublin, Ireland, White was asked about McGregor’s future and who could be his opponent. White proceeded to say nothing has been set (quote via MMA Fighting.com).
“It’s going to [be] determined when Conor comes back, who the opponent is,” White said. “Whenever Conor is ready and he comes back.
“He hit me up last night when he heard that I was here [in Dublin]. He’s in New York right now, and he is training.”
McGregor (22-6), who is now 36, hasn’t fought since 2021 when he broke his leg in a rubber match with Dustin Poirier.
The former featherweight and lightweight champion has two fights left on his UFC contract.
