Dana White Says Jon Jones Can Rematch Daniel Cormier in Late July if Former Champ’s Ready
By FCF Staff
If Jon Jones is willing and able to fight Daniel Cormier in late July, then the former light-heavyweight champ will get his shot at the belt.
Following Cormier’s submission win over Anthony Johnson at the recent, UFC 210 card, there’s been extensive speculation as to whether Jones will return to a title shot. “Bones” is currently serving out a one year, USADA suspension that will end in early July.
Recently Dana White spoke to ESPN, and the UFC President reported the following about Jones:
“Cormier is available to fight on July 8, but that time frame doesn’t work for Jon Jones,” White said. “Cormier already told me he’s willing to fight either Jones or Manuwa.
“If Jon Jones is ready to fight [by UFC 214] on July 29, we’ll see the Jones versus Cormier rematch, finally.”
In the meantime, Jimi Manuwa and Cormier have been battling on Twitter, and the challenger has been calling on the champ to sign onto the bout.
