Dana White Says “Next Fight Could be Conor Versus Khabib”
By FCF Staff
It’s not clear at this juncture when and who Conor McGregor will fight next, but Dana White recently reported that the lightweight champ could face Khabib Nurmagomedov.
After McGregor stopped lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez in November to grab the 155 title, the expecting father said he was planning to take a break. White proceeded to say in the following days that McGregor could be taking a 10 month hiatus. As a result, there’s been speculation that the UFC would book Nurmagomedov to fight Tony Ferguson. But, more recently, McGregor said he never reported that time frame.
The UFC President recently appeared on FOX 5, in advance of the promotion’s February 11th card in Brooklyn. During the interview, White had this to say about Russia and Nurmagomedov (quote via MMA Junkie):
“We’re focused very heavily on Russia right now,” White said. “First of all, there’s tons of talent coming out of Russia, and a lot of fans. There’s a fighter named Khabib who’s from Russia, and he’s insanely popular. The next fight could be Conor vs. Khabib.”
Nurmagomedov is coming off a submission win over Michael Johnson at UFC 205 in November.
