Dana White Says “No One Will Pressure” GSP into Super Fight, Johny Hendricks Next And “Soon”

UFC welterweight contender Johny Hendricks

By FCF Staff

Earlier this week Georges St. Pierre put the brakes on discussion about a super fight between himself and Anderson Silva, and now UFC President Dana White has announced that the welterweight champ will fight Johny Hendricks next.

According to multiple reports, White relayed at a UFC 159 media event today that “nobody is going to pressure” St. Pierre into a super fight with Silva, and that a bout with Hendricks will take place “soon”, “maybe in August.”

Hendricks has been calling for a bout with St. Pierre for sometime, as the powerful fighter is coming off notable victories over Martin Kampmann, Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and most recently Carlos Condit.

Many believed the decorated wrestler would fight St. Pierre this past spring, but the welterweight champion requested a bout with former Strikeforce champ Nick Diaz.

White has repeatedly expressed an interest in matching St. Pierre up against Silva, however, GSP has said that the fight would require him to put on a significant amount of weight and abandon the welterweight division.

While appearing on “The Joe Rogan Experience” earlier this week, St. Pierre stated that he believes cutting to lightweight would be easier for him than moving to middleweight.
