Dana White Says UFC 249 Has New Location

Dana White has insisted that he will find a way to hold the April 18th, UFC 249 card and Khabib Nurmagomedov versus Tony Ferguson. Now the promotion’s president is saying that a new location for the event has been secured.

UFC 249 was originally scheduled to take place in Brooklyn, New York. But due to a temporary ban on public gatherings in the state, on account of the coronavirus pandemic, the card can no longer be held there.

While speaking with Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole recently, White was asked if he knows where UFC 249 will now be held, and he stated yes (quote via MMA Junkie).

“I do (know where it is),” White said on Instagram Live. “But I’m not ready to tell you yet. I know lots of things. … There’s not going to be any fans there. It’s going to be a closed event.”

White did not offer any additional information regarding the event. But, while discussing the UFC’s plans to move forward with events, White also said this.

“Everybody who is going to be involved in this thing is going to be because they want to be, not because they have to be or they have to do anything,” White said. “Believe me: We didn’t just start thinking about safety when the coronavirus popped up. Health and safety, these are things that normal businesses that are out there right now don’t necessarily have to think about on a daily basis. Health and safety is something we’ve been doing long before the coronavirus and we’ll be doing it long after the coronavirus is gone. This is just normal (expletive) for us.”
