Although Tyron Woodley has said he’d like to fight Matt Brown next, UFC President Dana White has revealed the promotion wants him to square off with Hector Lombard.

White relayed the news during a recent interview with UFC.com, while discussing the welterweight contender. The ZUFFA exec stated:

“What’s weird about that is that Woodley calls out Matt Brown, but he’s ranked higher than Matt Brown,” White said. “But we want to do Tyron Woodley vs. Hector Lombard – that’s the fight we want to do. Hector said yes, we’re just waiting to hear from Woodley. Lombard said he would fight him, no problem.”

Woodley (14-3), who is coming off a quick stoppage win over Dong Hyun Kim at UFC FN 48, is ranked #3.

Lombard (34-4-1) is positioned at #6, after scoring wins over Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields since he moved from middleweight to 170.

It should be noted that both men train out American Top Team.

White also confirmed in the interview that the UFC is interested in matching Matt Brown up versus Carlos Condit. The latter is currently recovering from knee surgery and isn’t expected to be back in action until 2015.
