Dana White Shoots Down Anderson Silva – GSP Rumor, Repeats Contention Latter Isn’t Coming Back
By FCF Staff
Amidst rumors that Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre could be fighting in December, UFC President Dana White is reporting that the stars will not be facing off.
Talk that the much discussed bout could be taking place this year has been heightened by an Instagram post from Silva’s son, which hinted the fight will go down in December. But, while taking to BT Sports, White said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“That’s not true. So not true. I know everybody keeps talking about — GSP isn’t even close. I’m telling you again, I don’t think GSP wants to fight. I keep saying this. You guys know fighters as much as I know fighters, do you think GSP wants to fight? GSP wasn’t crazy about fighting when he was fighting! Now three years later he’s just dying to fight? He’s not. I don’t think he is.”
White also reportedly said that in his opinion, St-Pierre “likes to keep his name out there like he might be coming back”, but that ultimately, the Canadian won’t return.
St-Pierre has repeatedly said that he wants to fight again and has entered the USADA drug testing policy as a result. The former welterweight champ has also said, however, that he would need a new contract that compensates him for the revenue he’s lost, as a result of the Reebok uniform deal
