Dana White: Tony Ferguson to Fight Kevin Lee for Interim 155 Belt
By FCF Staff
It looks as though Khabib Nurmagomedov will not fight Tony Ferguson for an interim, lightweight belt as was widely expected.
On Tuesday, UFC President Dana White told reporters that Ferguson will face Kevin Lee for the interim title on October 7th. UFC 216 is being held that day in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to White, Nurmagomedov is recovering from surgery and is not ready to return. The latter was booked to fight Ferguson in March, but Nurmagomedov had to withdraw shortly before, after encountering medical issues as a result of his weight cut.
Ferguson (22-3), who has won nine straight bouts, has yet to compete in 2016.
Lee (16-2), meanwhile, is riding a five fight winning streak.
