The UFC is working on booking Khamzat Chimaev’s next couple of fights, and one of them could be against perennial contender, Demian Maia.

Chimaev made headlines this past July, by becoming the first fighter in UFC history to record two wins, in ten days. The Chechen born, Swedish fighter submitted middleweight John Phillips on July 15th, and ten days later, he stopped welterweight Rhys McKee.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since due to visa issues. But recently White reported the UFC is actively working on securing bouts for Chimaev (8-0) in Las Vegas and then on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I think he gets here this weekend,” White said. “… He’ll fight here and he’ll fight on ‘Fight Island.’ This guy wants to (fight). I love that mentality.”

“We’re working on a fight for him here that’s still being worked,” White said. “We’re talking about him and Demian Maia on ‘Fight Island.’”

The 42-year-old Maia (28-10) is coming off a stoppage loss to Gilbert Burns in March. Following the loss, Maia relayed he is interested in fighting fellow veteran Diego Sanchez. The latter is booked to fight Jake Matthews on September 26th.

The feared submission artist has one bout left on his UFC deal and Maia has said it could be the last of his career.
