Few people have been debating whether Jose Aldo versus Chad Mendes II was one of the best fights of the year, but there has been some discussion as to who really won the October 25th fight. According to UFC President Dana White, however, there is no debate.

Aldo was stunned by Mendes several times at UFC 179, but the featherweight champion managed to outscore the powerful wrestler standing and rocked the challenger on a couple of occasions. Recently, White had this to say to UFC.com about the thrilling war, which saw Aldo emerge with the unanimous decision win:

“I called Mendes and I called Aldo three days after the fight to tell them how honored I was to be able to sit in the seat I was sitting in and seeing that fight,” White said. “It was two guys who don’t want to move backwards and who won’t break, and they just kept going at each other. Aldo won the war of attrition. He won that fight. A lot of people were talking about Mendes getting robbed. Mendes fought an awesome fight, but Aldo absolutely won that fight and I think it raised his stock.”

The bout marked the second time Aldo and Mendes have fought. In their initial meeting in January, 2012, Aldo knocked out Mendes in the opening round.

With the win, Aldo extended his incredible winning streak to 18.
