Dana White Would be “Interested” in Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. GSP, if Tony Ferguson Can’t Fight

In the preceding year or so, Dana White repeatedly shot down the possibility of a fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre taking place. But, more recently the UFC President has left the door open to the all-star match-up.

St-Pierre and Nurmagomedov have both reported that they’re interested in fighting one another. White, however, repeatedly said the UFC wasn’t interested in the match-up, since St-Pierre’s future in MMA is uncertain. The UFC President cited the fact that St-Pierre never defended the middleweight title he won in 2017, by choking out Michael Bisping. The Canadian star ended up vacating that belt due to his issues with ulcerative colitis. St-Pierre officially retired earlier this.

TMZ Sports recently spoke with White, however, and when asked about Khabib’s next fight and the possibility of facing St-Pierre, he said this (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“Tony Ferguson is the fight that needs to happen,” White said. “We’ve tried to do it four other times, so hopefully we can get it done this time. But that’s the fight that makes sense.”

“That can happen, too,” White said. “We’ll see what happens with Tony. Tony’s had opportunities before that he didn’t take, so if he doesn’t, then I would be interested in talking about ‘GSP.’”

Just last month, the now 38-year-old St-Pierre said that he’s “turned a page” on fighting Nurmagomedov and is committed to retirement.
