It’s still not clear who Conor McGregor is going to fight next, but Daniel Cormier believes the lightweight champ is now “ready” to face Tony Ferguson, following the latter’s win at UFC 216.

Ferguson secured the interim lightweight title at the October 7th card,  by submitting Kevin Lee in the third round. While Cormier has praised Ferguson for his abilities, he also criticized “El Cucuy” for keeping his chin high against Lee.

During the latest “UFC Tonight” on FS 1, the light-heavyweight champ had this to say about McGregor and Ferguson (quote via FS 1 press release):

“First off, Tony, great performance. But to say Conor is only talk is not true. Conor’s backed it up. He beat Aldo, then beat Eddie Alvarez. It’s not all talk. But I believe the fight between Conor and Tony now will happen. But you’ve got to be careful, Tony – what you ask for isn’t always what’s best for you. I think Conor might have seen something in that fight and is ready for it now. I think they both have to make some strategic adjustments.”

McGregor has yet to defend the lightweight title he took from Eddie Alvarez last November, by stopping the decorated fighter.
