Now that Stipe Miocic has defended the heavyweight title, by taking out Alistair Overeem at UFC 203, Daniel Cormier is calling for a bout between the champion and Cain Velasquez next.

Miocic knocked Overeem out in the opening round of Saturday’s main event, by finishing the decorated fighter with ground-and-pound punches. The bout marked the first time Miocic had fought, since he KO’d Fabricio Werdum in May to grab the HW title.

During the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1, Cormier had this to say, while discussing Miocic’s next bout (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“Cain Velasquez vs. Stipe Miocic is the best fight we could put on. I believe these are the two best in the division. The heavyweight division is moving fast right now, and Junior Dos Santos looked great as well, until he got hurt.”

Velasquez, who trains with Cormier, is coming off a first round, stoppage win over Travis Browne in July. The accomplished wrestler lost the heavyweight title to Werdum last summer, via submission.
