Daniel Cormier Says Third Bout With Jon Jones Can Happen in or Out of The Cage

Talk about Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier fighting for a third time continues to make the rounds, and “DC” says the bout could take place, in or out of the cage.

Since Jones reclaimed the UFC’s light-heavyweight title last year, speculation about whether he could face Cormier one more time has spiked. Ahead of UFC 239 tonight, the company held a press conference yesterday to promote its upcoming main events, one of which will see Cormier rematch Stipe Miocic on August 10th.

During the presser, Cormier was asked about fighting Jones for a third time, and the heavyweight champ said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“So this is the thing about a fight with Jones and I. It can always happen,” Cormier said. “It can happen whether it’s here, whether it’s in an Octagon. It may happen in the back when I’m leaving the building. It just always happens. Neither him nor I ever shy away from the opportunity to punch each other in the face.

“So when I’m done with Stipe and Dana opens up the book and goes this is what you guys are getting paid, then you guys may get a third fight. But ultimately that’s what’s gonna determine it.”

Jones defeated Cormier by decision in 2015, and in 2017, he stopped the decorated wrestler. That result was overturned to a no-contest, however, after Jones tested positive for banned substances.

Jones is scheduled to fight Thiago Santos tonight at UFC 239.
