Following Demetrious Johnson’s stunning loss to Henry Cejudo at UFC 227 on Saturday night, Daniel Cormier is one of the voices calling for the former champ to get an immediate rematch.

Johnson was looking to defend the flyweight title for a new record of 12 times at the event, but Cejudo ended up taking the belt via a narrow, split decision win. Johnson faced Cejudo the first time back in 2016, and finished the Olympic Gold Medal wrestler in the first round.

After the thrilling bout, two-champ Daniel Cormier had this to say about Johnson’s future (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I love Henry and I love his idea that he wants to be a two-weight champ,” Cormier said. “Cool thing to do now. But if anybody deserves a rematch, it’s Demetrious Johnson. Come on, he lost a split decision after 11 title defenses. If Demetrious Johnson doesn’t get a rematch, there is no hope for any of us in the entire world, because that means that nothing you could ever do will warrant getting an immediate title shot [rematch].”

Following the bout, Johnson expressed an interest in fighting Cejudo again, but the renowned fighter also reported that he sustained foot and knee injuries in the contest.
