A lot of people from within the boxing world have been extremely critical of tonight’s Floyd Mayweather – Conor McGregor bout, but former champ Daniel Jacobs is expecting a “classic”.

Since Mayweather has gone 49-0 to date in pro-boxing, and Mayweather has never boxed professionally, many observers believe the latter will be badly out gunned. As a result some figures from within the boxing world have labelled the contest as a freak show, even thought it’s expected to be the biggest fight in history.

But, during the latest “UFC Tonight”, the former WBA middleweight champ Jacobs had this to say about Mayweather – McGregor (quotes via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“This kills the idea that boxing is dead. I think this is going to be a magnificent fight. I think it’s going to be classic.”

Jacobs also offered his take on what the keys are for both McGregor and Mayweather:

“Being bigger can help tremendously,” Jacobs said about McGregor. “Being bigger, you can take more shots. And being the longer fighter, if he exchanges with Floyd at the same time, McGregor’s punch might get there faster.”

“Floyd is one of the greatest boxers of this generation. He has the ability to adapt in the fight and his patience allows that. With Conor being newbie, not understanding what’s going on in the ring, it might be tough for him to figure it out.”

And as far as Jacobs’ prediction for the fight?

“You have to be real. He’s dominated this sport for so long. Floyd will win.”

Mayweather – McGregor will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
