Derek Brunson came up short against Israel Adesanya, when the latter was surging up the middleweight ranks. But, the longtime, contender says that won’t be the case, when he takes on another rising star, Kevin Holland.

Brunson (21-7) will face Holland (21-5) in the main event of UFC Vegas 22, which is taking place Saturday at the Apex Facility. Holland has been booked for the opportunity, after extending his winning streak to five, with an electric KO of “Jacare” Souza in December.

While speaking to the media, ahead of the bout, Brunson had this to say about Holland, and his trash talk (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“Holland would like to make it personal; he would like to follow the same thing ‘Izzy’ did with the hype,” Brunson said. “It’s funny, he’s doing the exact same thing ‘Izzy’ did. He’s calling me ‘Bumson,’ and I’m like, ‘Bro, ‘Izzy’ said the same thing. You’re trying to do exactly what he did.’ So I haven’t been engaging with him because I’m going to fight the way I fought my previous couple of fights.

“I’m going to look to knock you out regardless, so like I’m not going to be satisfied until I trap your arms and TKO you. That’s how the fight is going to go no matter what is said or how much trash you’re talking. It’s not going to change the way that I fight.”

The 37-year-old Brunson, who was stopped by Adesanya in 2019, is coming off a TKO win over Edmen Shahbazyan in August. Shahbazyan had won his first 11 pro bouts before facing Brunson.
