After dropping back-to-back bouts, Derek Brunson has outlined why he believes a fight with Elias Theodorou makes “perfect sense” for both middleweight contenders.

Brunson (18-7) is coming off a stoppage loss to Israel Adesanya last month, which followed a knockout defeat to “Jacare” Souza in January. Recently Brunson spoke with MMA Junkie, and while discussing possibilities for his next fight, the explosive fighter said this:

“I think a fight between me and Elias Theodorou makes perfect sense,” Brunson said. “He’s a guy who needs to fight a formidable guy to get in the top-10.

“What, is he going to keep fighting guys out of the top 10? That’s a fight I’d like to have. I’ve fought everybody, so I’m just looking to fight some guys about where I’m at.”

Theodorou (16-2), meanwhile, is riding a three fight winning streak and is coming off a split decision win over Eryk Anders at UFC 231. The Canadian fighter is currently ranked #13 in the UFC’s 185 division and the American Brunson is #8.

Before Brunson’s loss to Souza, he had recorded consecutive KO wins over Daniel Kelly and Lyoto Machida.
