Diego Sanchez Returning to Lightweight Division

Sanchez

By FCF Staff

After losing by unanimous decision to Jake Ellenberger in February, Diego Sanchez has decided to drop down from welterweight and compete in the lightweight division once again. The former TUF Season One winner and Jackson’s MMA fighter confirmed his decision on his official Twitter account.

Sanchez has not competed at 155 pounds since December, 2009,when he was stopped by the reigning champion at the time, BJ Penn, in the fifth round.

Following the defeat, which ended a four fight win streak, Sanchez returned to welterweight and dropped a UD loss to John Hathaway in May, 2010.

Sanchez proceeded to score unanimous decision wins over Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann, before facing Ellenberger earlier this year.

No timeline has been set for Sanchez’s return as he is reportedly recovering from an injury.

The 30 year-old-fighter carries a record of 23-5.
