Diego Sanchez to Fight Ricardo Lamas in Featherweight Debut

Diego Sanchez

By FCF Staff

Diego Sanchez is making the drop to 145 pounds, and the veteran will be greeted by one of the division’s top contenders in his featherweight debut. The UFC has announced that Sanchez will fight Ricardo Lamas at UFC Fight Night 79, which will take place in Monterrey, Mexico, on November 21st.

The move means that Sanchez will have competed in four weight classes throughout his career, as the New Mexico fighter has fought at 185, 170 and 155 to date. Sanchez (25-7) hasn’t fought since last June when he earned a controversial, split decision win over Ross Pearson. The vet is 2-3 in his last 5 fights.

Lamas (15-4) is coming off a knockout loss to Chad Mendes in April, after scoring wins over Dennis Bermudez and Hacran Dias in his previous two outings. Lamas is currently ranked #4 in the UFC’s featherweight division.

UFC FN 79 will also feature a welterweight bout between Matt Brown and Kelvin Gastelum.
