Although Donald Cerrone is booked to fight rising lightweight Alex Hernandez next,  it looks like “Cowboy” believes he’ll face Conor McGregor sometime next year.

Cerrone started campaigning for a fight with the former lightweight champ after he submitted Mike Perry last month. Since then, however, Cerrone has been scheduled to face Hernandez at the UFC’s January 19th card in Brooklyn.

Recently the fan favorite spoke with ESPN, and while discussing the possibility of fighting McGregor, Cerrone said this:

“I think [McGregor’s] side is interested in it, I know I’m very interested, and for the UFC, that’s a money fight,” Cerrone said. “By no means am I overlooking Alex. I’m focused on getting through him, and Conor is potentially what’s next.

“I don’t see why he would turn the fight down. I’m interested to see how it all plays out. I’m pretty sure Conor and I will be meeting in the Octagon soon.”

McGregor,  meanwhile, is still waiting to see what type of disciplinary action he might receive, if any, as a result of the post-fight brawl that occurred following his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. The bout was part of the October 6th, UFC 229 card in Las Vegas.
