Douglas Lima – Gegard Mousasi Bout Likely For 2020
By FCF Staff
Gegard Mousasi and Douglas Lima haven’t been able to fight for Bellator’s vacant middleweight title yet. But, it looks like that could change before the year is up.
The welterweight champ Lima was expected to face the former middleweight champ Mousasi earlier this year for the belt. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the bout never materialized.
Following Bellator 244on Friday, however, Bellator President Scott Coker reported that the match-up could happen soon (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“The good news is we were able to obtain a proper visa for Gegard and his team to come into the U.S.,” Coker said. “So you’ll see that fight probably here at the Mohegan Sun before the end of the year.”
Mousasi (46-7) hasn’t fought since September, when he recorded a split decision win over Lyoto Machida.
Lima (32-7) last competed in October, when he defeated Rory MacDonald by decision.
The middleweight title was last held by Rafael Lovato Jr., who was forced to vacate the belt due to the discovery he has a brain condition.
