Khabib Nurmagomedov has never lost in his MMA career to date, and has dominated many of the opponents he’s faced. But, Dustin Poirier sounds confident he’ll become the first man to defeat the UFC’s lightweight champ.

Poirier is expected to face Nurmagmedov next, after securing the interim title last month, by defeating Max Holloway. Recently the rugged fighter appeared on MMA Junkie.com Radio, and while discussing a showdown with Nurmagomedov, he said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I can beat anybody in the world. Khabib’s skin is going up next,” Poirier said. “I can beat anybody in the world. I just need to put the work in and show up in the moment, ready to perform, and I can beat anybody.”

“It’s prestigious to be the first person to give Khabib that L,” Poirier  added. … “Me being the interim champ, it’s a piece of the world title. I understand that. We have to unify the belts.”

Although Nurmagomedov – Poirier hasn’t been finalized yet, there’s been speculation the fight could headline UFC 242, September 7th in Abu Dhabi.
