Eddie Alvarez is Reporting Bout With Anthony Pettis is Official
By FCF Staff
It looks as though the UFC has added an all-star lightweight fight to its January schedule, as Eddie Alvarez is reporting that he’s fighting Anthony Pettis on January 17th. The UFC is scheduled to hold an event in Boston on that date, however, no venue has been booked.
The UFC has not officially announced the Alvarez-Pettis fight.
Alvarez has relayed in recent weeks that he was interested in fighting the former lightweight champ, who hasn’t competed since March, when he was decisioned by Rafael dos Anjos. Pettis (18-3) is currently ranked #1 in the lightweight division and is 4-1 in his last five fights.
Alvarez (26-4), meanwhile, is coming off a tightly contested, split decision win over Gilbert Melendez in June, after he was decisioned by Donald Cerrone last September. Alvarez is ranked #4.
The former Bellator champ relayed news of the Pettis fight via Twitter (warning: explicit language):
