Leon Edwards may not be a household name in combat sports yet, but his brother Fabian says fans will need to respect “Rocky”, if he beats Rafael dos Anjos next month.

On account of a seven-fight winning streak, Edwards (17-3) is expected to face fellow welterweight contender, Rafael dos Anjos on July 20th. Recently the British fighter’s brother, Fabian, was a guest on the Eurobash podcast.  While discussing his brother’s upcoming bout with dos Anjos, and Leon’s status, Fabian said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I think it will [be the performance that changes public opinion on Leon]. It doesn’t make sense how the public views him; it doesn’t make sense at all. There are just a lot of bandwagon people jumping on him that don’t know the sport too well.”

“They’re saying, ‘three-piece and a soda’, we’re out here fighting, making enough money to buy the whole f*ckin’ chicken shop, ” said Fabian, while alluding to Jorge Masvidal. “We’re winning fights and making money, and you’ve got all these fat guys at home talking sh*t. At the end of the day when he goes out there and smokes RDA, they’ll have to give him respect. Real fans that know the sport ought to respect him.”

Fabian Edwards (8-0), meanwhile, competed at Bellator London this weekend and defeated  Jonathan Bosuku by unanimous decision.
